If you have been following along with my journey for a while and would like to know what has happened to some of the film projects that I am working on, here is a little update for you: 

It might seem as though things have gone a little quiet with The Secret Folk Dancer, but there is actually a lot happening behind the scenes.

We’re very much still developing the film and taking some important steps towards getting it made.

A few of the highlights:

• Estonian producer Aili Maarja from Ajafilmid has joined the journey and is working with us on developing the project and finding the right funding opportunities.

• This October, I’ll be taking The Secret Folk Dancer to Vienna as part of the International Screen Institute’s Market Ready programme.

• Through the programme, I’ll be working with international film industry experts on how best to position, pitch and present the film internationally, as well as developing its strategy for future markets, sales and distribution.

• We’re also continuing to build new connections in both Estonia and the UK, bringing together the people and opportunities that can help us move the film towards production. 

And the Rules Are was filmed in Norfolk, England, in autumn 2025. 

We had such a great time making the film, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who was part of that journey. through crowdfunding, working on the crew and supporting us on location.

At the moment, the project is in post-production, but there are still a few additional scenes we need to film before we can complete the final edit.

Because so much of the film takes place outdoors, we needed to wait  with our pick-up filming until autumn comes around again, so the new material matches the original footage as closely as possible.

In the meantime:

• I’m continuing to work on the film in post-production.

• We’re preparing for the remaining pick-up shoots this autumn.

• Once those scenes are completed, the film can move into its final edit and finishing stages.

• After that, the plan is to begin submitting And the Rules Are to film festivals. 

In Soviet-era Estonia during the 1985 prohibition, a young militia officer, Mihkel, faces a moral dilemma while inspecting a wedding: whether to obey his strict superior or protect the people in his community — and Anneli, the woman he is in love with.

A Storm in a Teacup is a short historical satire-comedy set during the Soviet occupation of Estonia. The film uses humour and satire to explore community, authority, loyalty and the small acts of resistance that happen when people are forced to live by absurd rules.

The project is currently in development and financing stage. It has already been presented to the Estonian Film Institute, where we received very encouraging feedback, and we are now developing the project further before returning for the next funding round in January 2027.

One of the biggest steps so far happened this summer:

• A Storm in a Teacup was selected for Let’s Pitch Some Shorts in Zagreb, Croatia, where I was chosen to represent Estonia with the project.

• The event brought together filmmakers from ten European countries, and I had the opportunity to pitch the film to an international industry panel.

• The selection was based on the strength and potential of the project and its script. 

• We already have a wonderful group of actors attached to the project, which makes it particularly exciting to see the film beginning to take shape beyond the page. 

• The project was also awarded the International Screen Institute Award during the pitching event, giving it further international recognition and opening the door to the Market Ready programme in Vienna.
